What to grow in the winter patch
June 16, 2023
It's the middle of winter and we also we often ask, what can you plant in the veggie patch now?
Soil temperatures at this time of year get to a point where it's too late to be doing too much in the way of direct sowing, you're not going to have the warmth for germination and your patch will slow right down over winter.
You can see here up at St Erth we have beautiful Kohlrabi, some cauliflowers here, some beetroots, we have some onions and radishes and certainly lots of kale.
This was all started in May when there was a little bit of warmth and some of it started under control conditions in a simple glass house situation.
It'll slow right down. Do not a great deal until we get increases in daylights and they're ever so slightly increase in soil temperatures and then it'll ramp up for harvest time in Spring.
