How to grow
Grow sweet peas in a sunny position in fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost or well-rotted manure. Sow seeds 2–3cm deep and 10–15cm apart in autumn in mild climates, or late winter to early spring in cooler regions. Provide a trellis or climbing support at planting and water regularly, keeping the soil moist but not waterlogged. Pinch out growing tips when seedlings reach 10–15cm tall to encourage bushy growth. Mulch to keep roots cool and pick flowers regularly to encourage more blooms and prolong flowering.
