Stone Pine
Also known as Italian Stone Pine, Pine Nut or Umbrella Pine, this tree is native to the Mediterranean region and has been cultivated for millennia. A picturesque tree, the magnificent umbrella-shape of Stone Pine leaves Monterey Cypress for dead. The cones provide pine nuts, with each cone bearing up to 50 nuts from around six years of age.
Plant in full sun in a free-draining soil. Heat and drought tolerant once established. Do not prune.
