Stipa Gigantea
A spectacular ornamental grass that won’t take over your garden, these well-behaved tufted evergreen clumps of linear green leaves support long slender spires to 2m. In spring and summer these spires are graced with golden oat-like flower panicles, which age beautifully through autumn into silver. Plant in an open sunny position with the space to develop its graceful rounded form and fountain-like flower display. A truly magnificent feature in any style of garden. Also known as Giant feather grass and Celtica gigantea.
Full sun, free-draining soil, preferably of moderate fertility. Drought-tolerant once established. Plant in an open sunny position to allow the form of this graceful arching grass to be fully admired. Cut back spent flower stems in late winter and tidy foliage clumps by removing any dried or damaged leaves. New growth appears in spring.
