Scarlet Oak
The Scarlet Oak is a spectacular, large deciduous tree, more rounded in habit than a Pin Oak, offering wonderful shade in summer. A breath-taking sight in autumn, the glossy green foliage turns a deep red-crimson before aging to brown and falling. With its broad horizontal branching, Quercus coccinea makes an eye-catching feature or avenue planting. Complemented by deeply lobed leaves and acorns, which can take up to two years to appear, it is a fast growing, adaptable and highly ornamental landscape tree that deserves a place in any garden where space permits.
How to grow
Full sun, tolerates most soils, being known to adapt well to a variety of sites. Once established, performs admirably in dry conditions with sandy soils.
