Sage 'Purple'
The most beautiful of the culinary sages with excellent flavour and colour. New foliage has a purple colour before ageing to grey-green and the thickly felted leaves are as beautiful in the border as they are versatile in the kitchen. Use to flavour poultry, cheese and bean dishes. Performs well in poor soils.
Plant in full sun in a well-drained soil, raised garden bed or pot. Mulch with aged compost in autumn. Water regularly during establishment, then only as required as it has an aversion to wet feet. Prune regularly to maintain compactness and reduce woody growth. Can be shortlived, beneficial to replace every three years.
