Peppermint
The most popular of the mints for flavouring lollies and ice-cream, peppermint also has a long history of medicinal uses. It has been used to treat a range of ailments from heart palpitations to nausea, and is said to bring you visions of the future if you place a sprig under your pillow while you sleep!
A rapidly spreading perennial, plant in a confined garden bed or planter to contain its sprawl. Harvest often to maintain a compact plant. Leave a few plants to flower to feed bees and other beneficial insects. Prune back hard in autumn as plants begin to die back. Freeze leaves for use throughout winter.
