Mustard 'Red Giant' (Organic)
For those that like it hot. The huge bronze-green leaves with striking white midribs add structure to the vegetable garden. A first rate, quick growing ornamental. Spice up stir-fries or flavour sandwiches- whatever you do it is sure to add a zing. Harvest when young for salads as it gets hotter with age.
How to grow
Greens in the cabbage family need rich soil with some lime for a pH of about 7.5 and adequate water so the growth is never checked. A good cover of mulch will insulate them from hot, dry spells of weather. Their most damaging pest are the caterpillars of the white cabbage butterfly. Dipel, pyrethrum and netting are all effective organic controls for these voracious pests.
