Kniphofia x praecox

Clumps of narrow arching foliage forms a large mound, with vertical flower spikes rising to display the iconic red and orange blossoms, often affectionately referred to as 'red hot pokers'. 'Nancy's Red' produces its bright red flower spikes between September and January. Birds flock to the garden to feast on the abundant nectar in their tubular blooms.

Kniphofia 'Nancy's Red'

Displaying bright green grass-like foliage and brilliant red flower heads in summer, Kniphofia 'Nancy's Red' is a medium sized poker that will add strong vertical highlights to the perennial border. Much loved by all manner of nectar feeding birds, it is worth planting a succession of kniphofia varieties to ensure flowers for every month of the year.
How to grow

Plant in a sunny location in well-drained soil, though adaptable to a range of soil types. Drought tolerant once established but will flower better with moisture. A winter dormant variety. Cut off the dormant foliage during winter to keep the plant tidy and compact.
