Gladiolus 'Karma'

Gladioli have a long history that spans different cultures and eras. From Roman times to their popularity in Victorian gardens and modern cut-flower horticulture, these striking flowers have continued to captivate gardeners and florists alike. Famously known as Dame Edna's favourite bloom, the gladiolus is more than just a cut flower and has recently seen a resurgence in gardens around the world, where the tall flower spikes bring drama and excitement to the landscape in early summer. A popular choice for Australian gardens because they thrive in all areas of Australia, from the coldest to hottest climates. Best planted in early spring in most areas, these flattened corms produce stunning, tall spikes of colourful flowers in late spring and summer. Available in a rainbow of colours, these hardy perennial corms are related to iris and work well in cottage gardens, perennial borders and naturalistic planting schemes.
How to grow

Easy to grow, plant and forget until the strap-like foliage emerges in mid-late spring. Water regularly once growth appears and throughout flowering. Best grown in full sun although they will tolerate some afternoon shade, enjoy flowers in the garden or a vase. Plant in a well-drained soil in full sun or, if growing in pots, use a premium quality potting mix. Water regularly during the growing and flowering period. Leave to dry out while bulbs are dormant.
