How to grow
Sow directly into a well-prepared, weed-free garden bed in a sunny position during autumn or spring, depending on your climate. Scatter seeds thinly over the soil surface, gently rake in and firm down to ensure good seed-to-soil contact. Cover only lightly, as these varieties germinate best when sown shallowly. Keep moist until germination, then water as required while plants establish. Thin overcrowded seedlings to allow room for healthy growth. Allow flowers to set seed at the end of the season to encourage natural self-seeding and provide an ongoing display for pollinators. This combination is particularly suited to autumn sowing in southern Australia for a colourful spring display. Californian poppies, cornflowers and Flanders poppies provide accessible pollen, while Love-in-a-Mist adds seasonal floral diversity.
