Chokeberry 'Black'
Chokeberries are considered one of the world's superfoods due to the huge amount ofÿantioxidants packed into the berries. In fact, the black chokeberry has the highest antioxidant concentration of any berry! Commonly consumed as juice, fruits should be harvested as soon as they are ripe. The fire-like autumnal foliage makes this fruiting plant a real ornamental feature as well. Black chokeberry bushes are slightly smaller than the red chokeberry. Harvest as they ripen as berries do not hold on the bush.
Easy to grow, chokeberries are tolerant of a wide variety of soils and sites. Plant in wet and dry soil, full sun and part shade and even coastal locations. Prune annually to maintain a compact shape, and remove suckers to prevent unwanted spread. Fertilise each year with an application of aged compost each spring.
