Bean 'Ann Michelle'

A compact, low-growing bush bean developed by David Marray, and generously donated by a Diggers member in 2015. ‘Ann Michelle’ is a semi-veining bean with distinctive red seeds, selected for its high protein content and versatility in the kitchen. While it can be shelled and eaten fresh like a traditional “shell bean,” it also performs beautifully as a dry bean — ideal for soups, stews, or long slow cooking once the seed has fully matured and dried.

How to grow

As a low, semi-veining bean, ‘Anne Michelle’ is well suited to smaller gardens or situations where climbing support is limited. Sow after all risk of frost has passed; beans prefer well-drained, enriched soil, regular watering and a sunny position. Harvest as green shell beans when the pods swell, or allow pods to mature and dry on the plant for dry-bean storage.
