Pest control in the strawberry patch

Here we are in a lovely lush winter Strawberry patch, not a lot of pests for strawberries over winter you'll see a few little holes in the leaves where there have been some little caterpillars over the end of autumn, not really a lot to worry about.

One of the biggest concerns that you can have is when you're coming into that spring-summer time and you have active weevils, so a beetle that will come up from the ground and you'll look like you've got a beautiful big strawberry ripening in the sun you pick it and it's been hollowed out. That's a matter of population control a few weevils eating a couple of strawberries is fine.

If you're finding you're getting all your strawberries hollowed out from the back bottom you do want to look at knocking that population down.

The most effective way with a beetle is in their active time to use diatomaceous earth on top of the soil and this will kill the weevils as they come up through the ground.
