Did you know that most wasabi available in Australia is made from horseradish and food colouring, lacking the wonderful intensity of the genuine article? Growing your own is the best way to source the real thing. ‘Mazuma’ is our cultivar of choice and has ornately heart-shaped leaves. It is also much hotter in flavour than most others. Grow in a cool shaded position in moist soils and shelter from direct summer sun. All parts are edible.

How to grow

Grow in a cool, shaded position in moist, well drained soils and protect from direct summer sun. Protect from snails and slugs. Soil should be kept constantly moist. Grow in dense shade, 80% or more to protect from heat.
