Echinacea 'Magnus Superior'
From the prairies of the USA comes this valuable garden plant and the most elegant of all daisy flowers. With distinctive bronze cone-shaped centres and slightly recurved dark carmine-pink petals, the charming ‘coneflowers’ are produced en masse throughout summer and autumn. This improved variety, with flatter flowerheads for greater impact, was developed to commemorate 25 years since the release of the original strain ‘Magnus’. With its abundance of darker flowers, this form is truly superior!
Plant in full sun in well-drained soil with supplementary water during dry periods. Remove spent flowerheads and stems regularly to keep plants tidy and promote repeat flowering. At the end of autumn, the last of the bronze coloured cones can be left over winter, especially attractive when combined with ornamental grasses. Cut back old foliage to a low mound prior to new growth appearing in spring. Divide plants every 3-4 years in autumn or collect seed from dry flowerheads.
