What to exclude from your compost

June 16, 2023

One of the main questions we get is what can't you put in a compost?
I myself sometimes break some of those rules.
  • Rose pruning's I don't put in for the thorns mainly.
  • I don't like to put in too many big materials because they take too long to break down
  • meats and things like that and orange citrus peels, in general, take a very long time to break down.

That long decomposition can also promote different pathogens, so keep it to small particle sizes chip things up chop things up and always in the back of your mind have that two handfuls of brown dry and one handful of green wet, so your carbon and your nitrogen levels are in balance.
