Cornflowers are best grown direct from seed, sown where they are to flower in full sun and well-drained soil. Sow in early spring or autumn, scattering seeds thinly and covering lightly with soil. Keep soil moist until germination, usually within 7–14 days. Thin seedlings to 20–30cm apart to allow strong growth. Hardy and tolerant of poor soils, cornflowers require little care once established. Regular picking will encourage continuous blooms throughout the season.
