August Top Tips

#1 Edibles

Sow edible flowers like amaranth, sunflower, marigold and nasturtium. They are beautiful and practical.

#2 Fruit

Plant fruiting trees and vines including avocado, passionfruit and citrus.

#3 Divide

Harvest and divide ginger for replanting as the foliage dies down.

#4 Sow

Sow snake and winged beans as they will last into the upcoming wet season.

Rust fungus

Frangipani are losing their leaves, which often carry the rust fungus. Collect fallen leaves and bag and bin to prevent reinfection.

Bindii weed

Control bindii weed before they set seed that can become rampant in summer.

Fruit fly

Keep monitoring for fruit fly. If you observe their presence, remove spoiled and fallen fruit to reduce the risk or reinfection next season. Bag and dispose into the garbage.
