Fraser Island Apple
Commonly known as Beach Acronychia, is a hardy Australian native shrub or small tree naturally found along coastal regions of Queensland and northern New South Wales. It thrives in well-drained sandy or loamy soils and is particularly well-suited to coastal conditions, tolerating salt-laden winds and poor soils with ease. Best grown in full sun to part shade, it is drought-tolerant once established and requires minimal maintenance. Pruning can be done to shape or encourage denser growth, especially when used as a screen or hedge. It produces clusters of small, cream-coloured flowers in summer, followed by fleshy fruits that attract birds. This plant also supports beneficial insects, making it an excellent choice for wildlife gardens or revegetation projects. While generally pest-free, young plants benefit from occasional watering during dry spells until fully established.
