Jostaberry
A deciduous, thornless, fruiting shrub that's well suited to hedging and edible landscapes, the Jostaberry was first released in 1977, with its name directly relating to its blackcurrant and gooseberry parents as well as its German background. High in Vitamin C, the ripe fruit has lovely blackcurrant notes while the unripe fruit shows more of the gooseberry flavours. Net to protect ripening fruit from birds.
Suitable for full sun or part shade, plant in an enriched well-drained soil. Mulch to conserve soil moisture and to prevent competition from weeds. Prune in winter to remove older wood or broken branches.
