Drawing on years of organic tomato growing, Karen hopes to help you grow your best crop! Touching on the various climates around Australia, we will cover soil preparation for different climates; demystify tomato types, including dwarf plants, troubleshoot some common growing problems and explore the best cultivars for cooking, preserving, health, specific climates and garden sizes in all parts of Australia. Karen Sutherland has been growing her own food since she could wield a shovel. Training at Ceres, Royal Melbourne Zoo, Melbourne University (Burnley Campus) and a Permaculture Design Course with Bill Mollison, she worked for 20 years in ornamental horticulture. For nearly the last two decades she has followed her heart, specialising in edible gardens, with a focus on Australian native plants, designing, consulting, teaching and writing, to help others re-connect with edible plants, with her range of educational signs. She is a co-author of the award-winning book ‘Tomato Know Sow Grow Feast’ and writes for Organic Gardener magazine. She appears on 3CR gardening radio, and her gardens have featured in many publications and on TV.
