Join Diggers’ Head of Gardens, Julian Blackhirst to learn how to plant, grow and harvest heirloom vegetables all year round from your own backyard.

  • Selecting heirloom varieties to suit the season, climate and your garden. 

  • Planting times for common vegetable varieties in our Mediterranean climate. 

  • Crop rotation, companion planting and succession sowing methods to get the most out of your garden and growing season. 

  • Seed sowing and transplanting techniques to ensure success growing from seed, whether direct into the soil or in seedling punnets. 

  • How to spread out the harvest to avoid gluts and ensure a continuous supply of fresh heirloom produce.

Julian is a passionate gardener and Head of Gardens at The Diggers Club. With a background in organic gardening and growing heirloom vegetables Julian has spent decades working in Digger's historic gardens. He enjoys being surrounded by nature, creating edible gardens and sharing his experience of sustainable and organic gardening practices.
