Buddleja Crispa
This beautiful drought-tolerant shrub is grown as much for its handsome foliage as for its flowers, pretty though they are. In our Heronswood garden, it has made a 3m x 2m upright shrub. The new leaves are like white felt, which turn grey as they age. The 50cm long panicles of pink flowers. Prune to 1.2 metres after flowering. A tough survivor, even in less ideal conditions, and an excellent choice for coastal gardens or exposed gardens.
Prefers full sun but will also grow in part shade. Buddleja crispa is very easily grown in a wide variety of soils. From sandy to clay based soils and including good garden loam or limestone-based soils. Because it is also tolerant of a wide range of soil pH, from acid to alkaline. Prefers good drainage and so is not suitable for permanently waterlogged positions.
