Squash 'Gem'

The compact vine produces up to 8-10 orange-sized squash that can be eaten fresh while young and sweet, or stored, stuffed and roasted when the skin thickens and the flesh becomes more savoury.
How to grow

Related to zucchini and equally prolific, seed germinates readily from 18°C–35°C in as little as 7-10 days. Sow in punnets and transplant after all likelihood of frost has passed. Plant in full sun in a fertile soil enriched with aged compost and decomposed manure. Can be trained up a trellis or support. Water regularly, but avoid overhead watering which can encourage mould and mildew. Cut from the vine as required or when the leaves wither, store them for roasting and stuffing.
