Sedum 'Autumn Joy'
This succulent plant, with flat-topped broccoli-like heads, has a mass of stiff upright flowering stems from summer to late autumn. A chameleon of the plant world, ‘Autumn Joy’ flowers undergo a radiant colour change as the season progresses. From chartreuse buds, pale-pink stars open during late summer, then gradually darken to a rich copper-red. Plant this sedum in drifts to form a spectacular autumnal feature that provides interest right through to late winter. Combines beautifully with grasses.
Performs best in full sun and sandy to gravelly well-drained soils of moderate to low fertility as rich soil and shade may result in weak, floppy growth. Not suitable for water-logged areas. Appealing, aged to bronze, dead inflorescences should be left to enjoy over winter and cut back in spring when new growth appears from basal rosettes. Propagate by division in spring, detached leaves can also be rooted in soil to form new plants. Extremely drought tolerant, easy care plant suitable for hot, dry and coastal conditions.
