Rhubarb Crown Garden Collection
Harvest fresh rhubarb all year. With summer varieties 'Cherry Red' and 'Big Boy' for the warmer months, then abundant short day cropping from 'Winter Wonder' you can grow all your rhubarb needs for the year in 5m square. Two bare root crowns of each. Available winter only.
Grown for its edible stems, the leaves themselves are inedible due to their high concentration of Oxalic Acid. Growing from crowns, plants die back in winter, before sprouting again in spring. To harvest, rip stems down and to the side rather than cutting. Apply Ocean Brew fortnightly during early spring to encourage healthy new growth. Grow in full sun however In hotter regions plants will benefit from protection from afternoon heat. Remove flower stalks as they emerge to conserve plants energy. Allow plant to establish for 2 years before harvesting. Drought tolerant but benefits from seasonal watering.
