Oregano
A popular Mediterranean perennial herb, oregano, also known as wild marjoram, is a productive and highly aromatic groundcover suitable for garden beds and pots. Related to mint, oregano can become woody over a period of time, so regular pruning is essential for abundant growth. Said to have antiseptic properties, we grow it for its taste. Harvest foliage before flowering for maximum flavour and dry for use throughout the year.
An easy to grow herb with a shallow root system, water regularly during dry weather and mulch to conserve soil moisture. Avoid watering in winter when waterlogging can cause plants to rot. Drought tolerant once established, foliage is tastiest when not under stress.
