Lemon Verbena
This semi-deciduous shrub has highly lemon-scented leaves which can be used to make an invigorating tea, flavour cold water, or can be dried for perfumed sachets. Also useful as a hedge or a privacy screen.
Protect from frost and cold winter temperatures using a cloche or tunnel. Prune back in late autumn to make it easier to cover in winter. Fertilise in spring to encourage lush new growth and ample foliage for harvesting or cuttings. Tip prune regularly to promote compact growth.
