Calla Lily 'Hot Chocolate'

Calla Lilies are frost-tender flowering plants native to southern Africa. Smaller, more tender versions of the Arum Lily, Calla Lilies come in a variety of unique colours. Popular for their unusual flower colours and ability to bring a lush, tropical appearance to gardens in full sun or part shade, plant in a protected position or pot and water regularly throughout the growing season.
How to grow

Plant in a protected position in full sun to part shade. Calla lilies prefer a moist, free-draining soil in a frost free climate. In areas susceptible to frost, grow in pots. Plant rhizomes around 5cm deep with the pointed end facing up. Space them about 30cm apart in mass planting. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged as Calla lilies prefer consistently damp soil, especially during the growing season. Apply a layer of mulch around the plants to help retain soil moisture and control weeds. Remove spent flowers to encourage repeat flowering. In cool areas, protect from frost and cold with a thick layer of mulch or dig up during their winter dormancy, replanting in spring when all likelihood of frost has passed.
