Helleborus foetidus

Helleborus foetidus

Distinguished from most hellebores by its finely divided, palm-like elegant foliage, Helleborus foetidus is a tall and vigorous variety. Its dark green ferny foliage clumps are smothered in spring by gently nodding clusters of lime-green flowers held on thick stems just above the leaves. With flowers lasting several months, it provides a superb highlight in a dappled shade position. Awarded the prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM) by The Royal Horticultural Society.

Helleborus foetidus

Thriving in dappled sun or full shade, Helleborus foetidus is a wonderfully versatile and useful shade plant with distinctive foliage and flower colour. Flowering through winter and spring, it adds an air of sophistication and architectural interest with its sculptural form and lime green flowers. Great for dry shade, this resilient and beautiful hellebore suits any style of garden including cottage, formal or woodland schemes.
How to grow

Hellebores are resilient garden plants and are best grown in the ground. Remove old foliage when new growth appears in autumn. Apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or quality compost at this time too. Watch for aphids and spray if necessary. Deadhead spend flowers to encourage increased flowering.
