Bay Tree

Popular for its aromatic deep green leaves, which are best-known as an essential ingredient in casseroles and bolognese. Bay can be planted as a feature tree, pruned to maintain compact height and width as a hedge and even clipped for topiary. Drought and salt-tolerant once established. Slow growing, they rarely reach their height potential, making them perfect for gardens of all sizes. Even suitable for pots!
How to grow

A hardy tree suitable for hot, dry climates. Bay trees are drought, salt and frost tolerant, but dislike wet soils and waterlogged sites. Slow growing, water regularly during hot dry months, especially while plants are establishing. Prune regularly to maintain a compact habit or if training to topiary or as a hedge. Growing in pots can help to keep plants more compact. Avoid disturbing root zone as tree may sucker. If suckers emerge remove at ground level. Scale insect can sometimes bother this tree especially in more shaded sites and may be effectively treated with Eco oil.
