The perfect ground cover for sun-drenched slopes, this spreading mat-forming succulent soaks up the searing summer sun. Thick lime-green heart-shaped glossy leaves keep the soil cool and weed-free. Also grows under trees and in lightly shaded areas that drain well. Its dainty hot pink flowers are a summer highlight, but only open if exposed to sunlight. Not just a hardy living mulch, toss the piquant leaves into a salad too! Frost sensitive.

How to grow

Full sun or light shade, in free-draining soil. Extremely drought tolerant, suitable for rockeries, hanging baskets and sprawling down slopes and embankments. Needs little attention apart from occasional trimming to contain spread. Requires protection from frost.
