Asparagus 'Sweet Purple' Crown
Plant crowns in winter while dormant in a well prepared bed. Choose a permanent position as your best spears appear after several years in the ground. Do not harvest spears the first year to allow the crown to establish in your soil. In the second year, harvest spears when they reach pencil thickness, picking daily if suitable, for maximum flavour and crunch. Improve soil every year by applying a layer of compost in winter, ready for their spring growth.
