Achillea clypeolata
Achillea clypeolata is a well-behaved variety of achillea that will light up the garden with its ferny silver foliage and umbel shaped flower heads of golden yellow. A perfect landing pad for beneficial insects, this long flowered achillea is an easy-care low maintenance perennial for any sunny position in a range of planting schemes from cottage to coastal.
Achilleas prefer a position in full sun in a free-draining soil. Tolerant of poor soils, drainage is paramount, so incorporate grit and raise beds to improve drainage if necessary. Water periodically throughout summer for optimal growth and flowering, although plants will tolerate drought once established. Avoid waterlogged soils. Do not over-fertilise as achilleas may show reduced flowering in highly fertile soils. Non-invasive and less prone to spreading than other achillea varieties. Remove spent flowers to continue the display well into autumn. Frost, coast and drought tolerant once established.
