A Decade of Diggers
We are looking forward to joining our South Australian members to discuss developments over the last ten years at Diggers.
Join us to find out what has changed, the new things we are introducing and what remains the same in the business, our gardens, the research we are doing, the foundation and our education program. We would love to answer your questions over a cup of tea afterwards.
The last ten years has seen some big changes at the Diggers Club in five major areas:
Gardens
We are responding to the changes in climate by constantly adapting our gardens and plant palette to suit. Our naturalistic border at St Erth and the dry climate garden at Heronswood are just two examples of many changes we will share.
Business – introducing more sustainable ways of doing business and offering members more choice by the introduction of an online member platform, our digital magazine, online education program and free seed gift voucher means we can provide our members with a service that reflects today’s customers’ needs.
Business

Foundation
We are working towards gaining deductable gift recipient status to help us continue our work in preserving biodiversity, addressing climate change and ensuring food security and supporting environmentally sustainable gardening practices.
Philanthropic support from our members plays a critical role in enabling the Foundation to contribute to Australia’s efforts to address environmental sustainability.
Research
We continue the work of the past forty years by focusing on plants that grow in an Australian climate, trialling them in our heritage gardens and encouraging our members to engage with us in this work.
Our role in saving heirloom seeds continues to be made possible by the wonderful work of our members and growers who donate varieties and work with us to find the most viable and resilient seed collection.
Education
we have extended our program by offering more programs online, so that our members no matter where in Australia are connected to our library of learning resources. The introduction of monthly webinars means we can continue to connect with members and continue the gardening conversation.
Join us for morning tea and conversation with Diggers staff afterward, including our CEO (Fiona Forbes), Head of Gardens (Julian Blackhirst), Adelaide Retail Manager (Jill Woodlands) and Manager of Education and Events (Indra Kurzeme).
