What are these white spots on my peas?
White spots on peas is is powdery mildew, a common fungal disease which spreads quickly when the days are warm and dry, but nights are chilly with dewy mornings.
How to treat white spots on peas
If there are a few white spots, simply pick off the affected leaves, bag & bin them and spray the plant with a milk spray or Neem oil which will help to keep it at bay.
How to care for peas that have had white spots
Poorly drained soil and restricted air circulation can contribute to the development of the disease, so don’t plant too densely, and ensure the beds are well draining.
Overhead watering can also spread the spores, so water at the base of the plant, and watering in the morning as opposed to the evening is also beneficial.
Powdery mildew in peas is often just a natural sign that the plant is coming to the end of its life cycle as the weather warms, and when it succumbs heavily to powdery mildew there’s no redemption, it’s time to pull them out to make way for your summer crops.
