Lemon Myrtle
The ultimate native landscaping shrub that's popular with gardeners and chefs alike. The lemon scented foliage is rich in vitamin C and prized for its high levels of citral. Leaves can be used fresh or dried in sweet or savoury dishes. The fragrant honey flowers attract birds and pollinators. This wonderful shrub clips up well to create stunning dual purpose hedges or screens.
Lemon Myrtle grows naturally in subtropical climates and prefers a nutrient rich moist soil of a medium to heavy texture but well drained. Plant in full sun with protection from strong winds. Young trees are particularly frost tender and irrigation is required through dry weather. Enrich soil before planting with well rotted compost and slow release fertiliser.
