White Mulberry

A first-class shade tree that manages to look cool, even on the hottest days. Easy to grow, quick to establish and tolerant of a range of soils, although it performs best in a soil enriched with compost and decomposed manure. Seed grown with variable fruit colour from pale pink to burgundy, the fruit is commonly made into mulberry wine. Prune if required to control growth or let it go and enjoy sitting under the cool shade of this stunning tree. The foliage is the preferred diet of silkworms – if you happen to keep them as pets!

How to grow

Easy to grow and quick to establish, Mulberries are tolerant of a range of soils but does best in a soil enriched with compost and decomposed manure. Stake at planting if your position is open to winds. Apply a mulch of compost annually, as well as Fruit and Citrus fertiliser in spring. Prune if required to control growth, or let it go and enjoy the shade. Mulberries fruit on new season growth so prune after harvest to ensure optimal new shoots for next year's crop.
