Parrotia persica

This moderate-sized tree with attractive flaking cinnamon-coloured bark displays stunning rich tones of yellow, orange and red throughout autumn - the colder the climate the more spectacular the foliage. Being a native of Iran, it’s tolerant of high temperatures and drought. Requires formative pruning due to its interlocking branches. The tree has a fine root system close to the surface and makes a lovely backyard feature tree. Slow growth rate.
How to grow

Prefers full sun and partly acidic soil, though will tolerate most soil types. Avoid planting where subject to hot northerly winds to prevent leaf scorch.
