Cabbage 'Early Jersey Wakefield' (Organic)

A classic American heirloom that has been a favourite with both commercial and home gardeners since the mid 1850's. Its tight cone shaped heads make it a great space saving cabbage for smaller gardens. Can be harvested when small or left to develop into larger 2-3 kilo heads.
How to grow

Greens in the cabbage family need rich soil with some lime for a pH of about 7.5 and adequate water so the growth is never checked. A good cover of mulch will insulate them from hot, dry spells of weather. Their most damaging pest are the caterpillars of the white cabbage butterfly. Dipel, pyrethrum and netting are all effective organic controls for these voracious pests.
