Plant Care Cards for Little Diggers

Care card - Tomatoes

1. Find a nice sunny spot for your tomato.
2. Dig in lots of compost.
3. Dig a hole twice as large as the root ball.
4. Plant your tomato.
5. Water in well with seaweed solution.
6. Mulch with pea straw or sugar cane mulch.
7. Feed your tomatoes with organic fertilizer and water well.

Care Card - Carrots

1. Find a sunny spot for your carrots.
2. Prepare your soil by digging in lots of compost.
3. Sprinkle your seeds over the ground.
4. Lightly cover them with soil.
5. Water in well.
6. Make sure your soil doesn’t dry out while your seeds are sprouting.
7. When your carrots are 2cm high, pull some out so the remainder will have room to grow.
8. Feed your carrots with liquid fertilizer and water well.

Care Card - Nasturtiums

1. Nasturtium will happily grow in sun or shade.
2. Prepare your soil by digging in lots of compost.
3. Plant your seeds 30-40cm apart.
4. Water in well.
5. Make sure your soil doesn’t dry out while your seeds are sprouting.
6. When your nasturtiums are 5cm high, mulch well with pea straw or sugar cane mulch.
7. Feed your nasturtiums with organic fertiliser and water well to keep them lush.
8. Nasturtiums will self seed and spread with long tendrils so give them plenty of room or let them ramble through your other plants.

Care Card - Zucchinis

1. Zucchinis need a sunny position in the garden.
2. Prepare your soil by digging in lots of compost.
3. Tromboncinos are a fun variety to grow, and do best climbing a teepee or trellis.
4. Make a teepee by pushing stakes into the soil and tying them together at the top.
5. Plant 2-3 seeds at the bottom of each stake.
6. Water in well.
7. Make sure your soil doesn’t dry out while your seeds are sprouting.
8. When your zucchinis are 5cm high, mulch well with pea straw or sugar cane mulch.
9. Feed your zucchinis with organic fertilizer and water well.
10. When the tendrils are long enough, tie them to the teepee.
11. Pinch out the tips when they reach the top of the teepee.
