Originally known as Verdial in southern France where the variety first arose it had been widely adopted by Australian growers under the name Verdale . It has the most silvery foliage of all the olives so can be planted for its ornamental value alone. The fruit although large pitted is used for table olive processing which results in a pleasant-tasting good textured olive.
