Malus domestica 'Rome Beauty'
Member $24.95
Non-Member $29.95
A dual purpose, SELF-POLLINATING apple that is well-suited to our long hot summers (the Poms have never had much success with this one as it ripens too late for their short season). A chance seedling arising from an orchard in Rome in upstate New York (not the Italian Rome) in 1816. Rome Beauty has large brillant red skin and sweet flesh when well-ripened in autumn. A good cooker and a useful keeper. Self fertile but will produce even more fruit if planted with one of these pollinators: Snow, Cox's Orange Pippin, Granny Smith or Opalescent.
