Sunflowers
Bees are mesmerised by the flowers, chooks eat them to produce excellent eggs, the Russians roast them like peanuts and children grow them to beat the world record. They reach flowering size earlier than almost any other flower (60 days), but not all make good garden plants.
All varieties make spectacular cut flowers and ‘Italian White’ lasts well in the garden for a stunning display. Choose multi-headed varieties for longer flowering.
