    Dr Pietro Demaio, author of the “Preserving the Italian Way” as born in this country in 1949 of Calabrian parents, studied medicine and today works in a well-established medical centre in Melbourne. However, his true passion is cooking, his writing and advocacy aims to keep alive the popular culinary traditions of the Italian Country side.

    Pietro’s son, Dr Sando Demaio, as trained and worked as a medical doctor at the Alfred before a extensive international work and research. In 2018, funded through his media work with ABC TV and Pan MacMillan publishers, Sandro established an independent, not-for-profit foundation focused on improving the health and nutrition of Australians. Sandro currently co-hosts the ABC television show Ask the Doctor – an innovative and exploratory factual medical series broadcasting weekly across Australia, and around the world on Netflix.
