Rockmelon 'French Charentais' (Organic)
As delicately scented as the finest wine. It's the one the French adore above all others, says melon guru, Amy Goldman. 18 fruit per plant and 500g per fruit.
Melons need to be sown in warm soil. Like pumpkins, they are best sown on mounds, 1m apart. Sow 3 or 4 seeds where you want one plant, to ensure you get that, then excess seedlings can be pinched out. A sdandy, well drained soil of pH6 is ideal. While the vines are growing, they need plenty of water and nutrients, so good soil preparation is essential. However, once the fruit has set, too much water can lead to watery tasteless fruit.For larger melons, you can pinch out the ends of the vines, otherwise leave all developing fruit for smaller melons.
