Onion 'Barletta'

Early variety onion. This heirloom Italian onion from southern Italy is a versatile addition to the garden. Most popular for pickling, lift from 7 weeks to pickle or leave for a further 9 weeks to mature and develop, then harvest as a white salad or cooking onion. Spring sowing produces smaller bulbs. Mild and quick to harvest.

How to grow

All onions require rich, well drained soil. Onion seed can be sown directly into the garden, however many gardeners fiind it more effective to sow into punnets and transplant. It is essential to keep onions weed free. Harvest onions grown for their bulbs (not spring onions) when the leaves wither and collapse.
