Rugosa 'Roseraie De L'Hay'
An old-world rose, the highly-fragrant blooms start as decorative elongated buds before opening into large double flowers of vibrant magenta-plum. This cultivar’s semi-double flowers are considered opulent and would suit most gardens, especially lovers of plum tones. Exceptionally bright and bold ornamental rose hips follow in autumn. An incredibly healthy and robust shrub rose with dense light-green foliage, suitable for hedging. An excellent rose species for coastal areas. Despite originating from China and Japan, Rugosa roses are resilient performers in dry Australian summers. RUGOSA, C.1901.
Plant in an open, sunny position, in free-draining, neutral soil that is rich in organic matter. Water deeply to encourage strong roots when establishing and provide supplementary watering during dry periods. Roses are heavy feeders and will benefit from organic fertiliser, twice-yearly in heavy soils (spring and late summer) or four times in sandy soil. Deadhead regularly for repeat flowering. Prune to maintain density and shape.
