Pistachio 'Sirora' FEMALE

Pistacia vera 'Sirora'

Pistachio 'Sirora' FEMALE

This female variety 'Sirora' was developed by the CSIRO and was released in 1982 to suit Australian conditions and provide superior taste. The female Pistachio tree produces the fruit. It is possible to have several female trees to one male tree depending on the size of the orchard.
How to grow

Male and female trees are required to enable pollination. To grow and bear fruit Pistachio trees are best grown in regions with cool winters and hot, dry summers. They require more than 600 hours above 30 degrees Celcius and more than 1000 chill hours below 7 degrees Celsius. Summer and autumn rains may induce fungal problems and harvest difficulties. Water at least once a week, more often in dry weather, for the first couple of years. Prune to open up the centre of the tree and to remove branches overcrowding, rubbing or crossing.
